BEGINNING ON 1 SEPTEMBER 1998, THE CANADIAN METEOROLOGICAL CENTRE WILL TRANSMIT ON SATNET AND AMIS THE FOLLOWING VOLCANIC ASH FORECAST CHARTS PRODUCED BY THE US NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE USING THE FOLLOWING IDENTIFIERS: A0191C D291 VAFTAD AVN P VOLCANIC ASH PART 1 00Z A0192C D292 VAFTAD AVN P VOLCANIC ASH PART 2 00Z A0193C D293 VAFTAD AVN P VOLCANIC ASH PART 1 12Z A0194C D294 VAFTAD AVN P VOLCANIC ASH PART 2 12Z THESE CHARTS ARE ISSUED FOR VOLCANIC ASH CLOUDS IN THE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY OF VAAC WASHINGTON (CONTINENTAL UNITED-STATES, MEXICO, CENTRAL AMERICA, THE NORTHERN PART OF SOUTH AMERICA, THE CARIBBEAN AND LARGE PORTION OF THE ATLANTIC AND PACIFIC OCEANS) AND VAAC ANCHORAGE (ALASKA, THE ALEUTIANS, THE ARCTIC NORTH OF ALASKA, PORTIONS OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN NEIGHBORING THE ALEUTIANS AND THE BERING SEA). THE VAACS (VOLCANIC ASH ADVISORY CENTRES) ARE DESIGNATED BY THE INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION ORGANIZATION. THE CHARTS CAN ALSO BE ISSUED IN TEST MODE AND IN WATCH MODE IN THE CASE OF VOLCANOES THREATENING TO ERUPT. THE PART 1 CHARTS DEPICT A 12-HOUR AND 24-HOUR FORECAST. THE PART 2 CHARTS DEPICT A 36-HOUR AND 48 HOUR FORECAST. EACH CHART CONSISTS OF 8 PANELS PRODUCED USING THE VAFTAD MODEL (VOLCANIC ASH FORECAST, TRANSPORT AND DISPERSION MODEL). THE 4 PANELS IN ANY COLUMN ARE FOR A SINGLE VALID TIME AFTER ERUPTION. INDIVIDUAL PANELS ARE FOR LAYERS APPLICABLE TO AVIATION OPERATIONS AND ARE IDENTIFIED AT THE SIDE OF A PANEL WITH UPPER AND LOWER FLIGHT LEVELS (FL) IN HUNDREDS OF FEET. THE BOTTOM PANEL IS A COMPOSITE FROM THE SURFACE TO FL550. FOR EACH COLUMN, THE FORECAST VALID TIME SEPARATES THE UPPER THREE PANELS FROM THE COMPOSITE PANEL. VOLCANO ERUPTION INFORMATION IS AT THE LOWER LEFT. A DESCRIPTION OF THE INPUT METEOROLOGY IS AT THE LOWER RIGHT WITH A MESSAGE TO SEE CURRENT SIGMET FOR WARNING AREA. THE VISUAL ASH CLOUD SYMBOL AND RUN DESCRIPTION ARE AT THE LOWER CENTER.
