FXUS66 KEKA 192140 AFDEKA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 240 PM PDT Fri Jul 19 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Quiet, dry, weather continues today, with temperatures at or above normal. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms in the northern part of the area. && .DISCUSSION...Dry, seasonable weather continues across the area today. Coastal stratus has remained stubborn along the Humboldt coast early this afternoon. Some scattering may occur this afternoon, but it will make a comeback this evening. Interior temperatures this afternoon have warmed into the 90s and low 100s. Temperatures will stay warm this weekend, though cloud cover is expected to moderate temperatures in areas. A shortwave offshore will move toward the coast Saturday evening, driving that cloud cover and upper-level moisture. Additional moisture will allow for the marine layer to deepen, potentially allowing for stratus to stay in most, if not the entire day, along the coast. Inland, daytime heating and upper-level moisture could allow for dry thunderstorms, primarily around the Siskiyou county border, though chances remain around 10 percent. While small, the low moving closer to shore will allow for a chance of convection Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Dry and warm conditions are expected into the early week. SREF does hint at some convective potential Sunday and Monday afternoon in NE Trinity county, but upper-level moisture is even less available than Saturday. Temperatures will continue to warm up, with temperatures well into the 100s in most interior valleys by Monday into early next week. JB && .AVIATION...Typical stratus overcast conditions continued along the Del Norte and Humboldt Coasts today...and briefly penetrated into the Eel River Valleys this morning. The marine layer has been stubborn enough to linger along the Del Norte/Humboldt "immediate" coastlines into mid-afternoon; weather impacts at the terminals were mixed IFR SCT-BKN...specifically at ACV. A little tightening of the coastal pressure gradient could produce a few afternoon gusts, but overall light winds. Inland areas may experience some layers from wildlife smoke (definitely depicted on Vis Sat Pics), otherwise SKC. The marine layer will once again be present at the coast Saturday morning. /TAA && .MARINE...Gale watch for Monday afternoon into Tuesday as north winds behind a passing cold front could be quite strong. NBM 4.2 probabilities indicate that a solid half of the outer waters stand a 50 percent chance of max sustained north winds greater than 35-40 KT range. Increasing winds and steepening seas are still expected heading into tonight and Saturday, with the current small craft advisory to include all southern waters by this afternoon and reaching into the northern outer waters by Saturday. /MH && .EKA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
